Based on my research, the answer is yes\u2014through specific channels\u2014without interfering in day-to-day administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What the elected officials could have done, in brief:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Officially record the facts<\/strong> (documents, communications, decisions).<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bring the matter before council by resolution<\/strong>; if needed, the mayor may temporarily suspend an employee until the next meeting, at which council must ratify the measure.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Launch an administrative investigation <\/strong>(internal or by mandating an external investigator) in accordance with HR and ethics rules.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Report any presumed integrity issue to the Commission municipale du Qu\u00e9bec (CMQ)<\/strong>; the MAMH (Minist\u00e8re des Affaires municipales et de l\u2019Habitation) can provide a support framework and best practices, without substituting for council.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Seek judicial remedies (judicial review)<\/strong> if administrative mechanisms are insufficient.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Context of my situation<\/strong><br>The elected officials present at the candidates\u2019 presentation (October 23, 7:00 p.m.) were immediately informed of my situation and of the actions taken by the administration via the revision commission (<a href=\"https:\/\/northhatley.info\/en\/2025\/10\/26\/the-north-hatley-electoral-list-review-committee-composed-of-municipal-employees\/\">composed of municipal employees and supervised by the election chairperson who is also the chief executive officer of the municipality<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If they had wanted to intervene, they could, in my opinion, have quickly initiated one or more of the above steps (acknowledgment, investigation mandate, CMQ report, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I refrain from attributing motives; <strong>I simply wish to recall the institutional tools at their disposal.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Several residents asked me whether the elected officials could have intervened in my situation once they became aware of it.
