In my opinion, these few comparisons are not enough to draw any conclusions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I therefore extracted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quebec.ca\/gouvernement\/gestion-municipale\/finances-fiscalite-municipales\/information-financiere\/publications-financieres\/donnees-previsionnelles?annee=2024\">the property tax rates for all municipalities (1,037) available at the MAHM<\/a> for the year 2024, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quebec.ca\/habitation-territoire\/information-fonciere\/evaluation-fonciere\/statistiques\">their average residential property assessments (1 dwelling) for 2024<\/a>. I cross-referenced this data to estimate a typical bill: average residential assessment (1 dwelling) \u00d7 average residential tax rate (1 dwelling), + fixed costs (water, waste, etc.). I then ranked the municipalities from highest to lowest tax amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everyone is free to repeat the exercise and draw their own conclusions\u2014the method and basis for calculation are the same for all. It is possible that errors may have crept in. The aim is not to criticize, but to understand and position oneself correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Data sets:<\/strong><br><a (1 dwelling) is \u2248 $701,218.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To do this, <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn-contenu.quebec.ca\/cdn-contenu\/adm\/min\/affaires-municipales\/publications\/finances_indicateurs_fiscalite\/information_financiere\/donnees_previsionnelles\/TAB_taux_taxes_2024.xlsx\">I used the MAHM&#8217;s 2024 Table of Municipalities:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MAMH codes used: 300031 (total residential value of 1 dwelling) \u00f7 300028 (number of residential units with 1 dwelling).<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identical result for Standardized and Non-standardized sheets: $187,225,100 \u00f7 267 \u2248 $701,217.60.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Changes in taxation to service the debt <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Admittedly, the amount collected for debt servicing represents a portion of the municipal tax bill for every citizen of North Hatley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the year 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure This amount is used to repay the municipality&#8217;s long-term debt, in this case, the water system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The municipal debt (gross) shows a balance at the end of 2024 of $3,981,833. It is even possible to accelerate the repayment schedule, but this depends on two levers:<strong> increasing revenue or reducing\/controlling expenditure.
