On September 16, the 2nd edition of the Lobster Roll Dinner took place at Vilandré Microbrewery, right next to the marina. Once again this year, the weather was perfect — and so were the smiles!
What a pleasure it was to gather outdoors in September, on the terrace in the heart of the village, enjoying a great meal and even better company. These are exactly the kinds of moments that bring our community to life.
The main purpose of the Lobster Dinner is to bring together the North Hatley community and people from the surrounding area for a great meal in a festive and friendly atmosphere, right in the heart of the village.
Any surplus generated by the event is then donated to support a cause or initiative that benefits our community. For the past two years, the volunteers have chosen to support the Lake Massawippi Conservation Club, which is notably responsible for stocking the lake with rainbow trout.
No fewer than 80 guests, mostly from North Hatley and the surrounding area, gathered to enjoy delicious Prince Edward Island lobster, brought back especially for the occasion by Steve Percy and Josée Fontaine. A big thank you to both of you!
This wonderful evening was made possible thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, including Josée Fontaine, Steve Percy, Émilie Houle, Myriam Bilodeau, Samuel L’Heureux, Luc Vilandré, Jacques Roberge and Benoît Lépine — not to mention our incredible chef, Erwan Rouault, who came all the way from St-Jérôme to lend a hand. Passionate about cooking and driven by the pleasure of serving others, Erwan helped make the evening a true success.
Guests enjoyed a generous plate featuring two lobster rolls, served with salads and Vilandré’s famous fries. And for those with a sweet tooth, delicious desserts were also on the menu, including Justine’s famous carrot and chocolate cupcakes. A real treat!
Of course, this event would not have been possible without the participation of all our guests, the dedication of the volunteers and the invaluable support of Vilandré Microbrewery, which plays an important role in our community. Élyse, Mathieu and Luc are true partners of our village, both through their business involvement and through their presence and commitment as citizens.
Thanks to this wonderful community effort, $1,395 will be donated to the Lake Massawippi Conservation Club to help stock the lake with rainbow trout this fall. This is in addition to several private donations made directly to the Club. It is a great demonstration of how much our community cares about the health of the lake and the quality of its fishery.
As a reminder, an 8- to 10-inch trout costs approximately $5. The stocked trout are sterile, helping support recreational fishing while contributing to better ecosystem management.
And what can we say about fishing on Lake Massawippi? It is exceptional! I encourage anyone who has not yet discovered it to give it a try. Lake Massawippi is one of Quebec’s most beautiful and productive lakes for trout fishing.
Getting to know the lake well, however, takes time, practice and a few outings on the water… and that is precisely what makes the experience even more rewarding!
Thank you to everyone who contributed, in one way or another, to making this 2nd edition such a wonderful success. It is thanks to you that these community gatherings are possible — and that our lake continues to benefit from this wonderful community spirit!
With that, I hope we’ll have the opportunity to enjoy even more community events like this one in North Hatley in the years to come!
