Over four years, 4 of the 8 people who held council seats resigned (50%). In the same period, 2 of the 6 city councilor seats (33%) were filled by acclamation due to a lack of candidates—so no election was held.
Some may say that I am attacking elected officials. However, the resignations occurred before NorthHatley.info arrived on the scene.
| Date | Resignations of candidates | Minutes reference |
| October 4, 2022 | Resignation of Mme Nathalie Meunier | North Hatley village |
| November 17, 2022 | Resignation of Mme Sophie Brasiola | North Hatley village |
| December 13, 2024 | Resignation of M. David Wilson | North Hatley village |
| May 27, 2025 | Resignation of Mme Carrol Houlzet-Haller | North Hatley village |
Do these situations arise by chance? Several people mention a difficult political climate, sometimes marked by tension and a lack of dialogue within the council itself.
Ask the councilors who have left. As citizens, I believe we have the right—and even the duty—to ask the right questions to improve our local democracy.
I can not speak for Nathalie Meunier or Sophie Brasiola. Carrol Haller moved to Ayer’s Cliff which requires a resignation since she was no longer living in the municipality. As far as I am aware, David Wilson resigned for family reasons.
I do believe it is fine to have these types of questions. However, before posting about it, I think a better second step would be to ask those who resigned if one finds it worrisome.
Thank you, Ms. Thibault, for your comment. I have looked into the matter and agree with you regarding David Wilson.
I still do not understand why one of the four candidates resigned. That said, four of the eight candidates resigned in just four years, and some were victims of intimidation.
It must be acknowledged that, when you add to this the formal notice served by Mr. Reed’s bailiff and a letter of information in my name addressed to the entire population, the political climate is tense.
For Ms. Haller, we don’t have the same story.
This raises important questions that we need to examine.
I look forward to hearing from you.
