Since the flooding on May 18, this cone has been sitting on Capelton Road, along with a half-finished patch over the hole caused by the water. It’s still there—192 days later. I even bet it would still be in place by Christmas and end up decorated for the occasion. We’re getting close: less than 30 days left before we officially have a “Christmas cone.”
Who’s responsible for this forgotten cone: the ministry or the municipality? Clearly, no one is taking care of it. It’s surprising that it doesn’t seem to bother anyone. Honestly, at first it annoyed me; now it’s become a running joke. A bit like the missing minutes, the containers and fences on Mill Street… and now the concrete blocks that have joined the list.
And, as if by magic, more cones are starting to appear on the streets of North Hatley… and nothing suggests they’ll be disappearing anytime soon!
I invite people to place bets on the day this cone will finally be removed. My bet is 2026 for sure!
On that note, safe travels!
